"I find myself annoyed with the people who make money in doing nothing and humbled by the men and women (mechanics, roofers, carpenters) who actual do something by adding value to this place."

I don't mean to be rude, but, I'm curious. Where do you see yourself on the spectrum of people who make money doing nothing to people who add to the physical structure of civilization? (Do janitors fall into that category, too?) Is there more virtue to the physical infrastructure contribution than, say, to the retail clerk contribution, or the high school guidance counselor contribution?

For that matter, what IS this virtue we are talking about?

Here is an article with an interesting take on the draw of the "simple life."

I think I found something to sort of address that topic. This is an article about "servant leaders":

I think the motivation of the doer is the key. Doing things, creating things, building things that will benefit others because they benefit others.
