The junk pile was a wonder on earth to them and contained, they observed happily, everything technically known to man. There were unidentified nose cones and nozzles, new computer racks, miles of wires, whole big camouflaged trucks, chip sets, cathode ray tubes, a small fuselage, massive truck wheels, a go-cart of some kind, processors, cogs, bent metal things, large tubes and fluid circuits, Kevlar sheets and discarded string, used detonating cord and old TV antennas, pressure tanks and computers still in their wrappings, flattened steel something or others and pyrotechnic lines and avionics bays and was probably the most interesting place in the United States, maybe the world, for cool stuff and each of them felt the keen spiritual ownership of rummaging.

“You could like build anything you could think of out of the stuff in this place,” said Bonk, an ironworker of no small talent who knew what he was talking about.
