I just watched the new Star Trek movie again. I really dig this movie. The performances by Chris Pine as Kirk and especially Karl Urban as McCoy were fantastic. All of the crew were great, in fact. I wouldn't have believed a new cast could pick up and carry the original characters so successfully, but they did it!
What took me a little by surprise were the scenes filmed in the "engine room"... a brewery? Please.
And when Scotty gets flushed... shades of Wonka's chocolate factory. This is where I thought they got just a tiny bit silly.
They sure did an interesting job re-designing the exterior of the USS Enterprise (henceforth, to be known as the good ship barley pop?) and the bridge was interesting as well. It was also cool to see the more original looking uniforms. But all those vats in "engineering" looked ever so slightly out of place. No doubt this is one deck above where the magnetic bottles are located... the ones containing the ship's compliment of intermix antipepperonium.

Aside from the fact that I cannot seem to get through a screening of this film without becoming strangely thirsty, all in all I think it's a great movie! I'm a devoted Trekkie so I'll watch it again and can't wait till they do another one. Worth seeing!

Cheers!

It's the Drew Carey show redux with his brewery. Or is it Schotts Brewery and we're all reliving LaVerne and Shirley do Roswell, New Mexico, 1948.

Seeing this post reminds me I need to buy the DVD. I loved the movie. Saw it twice in the theater.

Go see Prince of Persia. I loved that one, too!

Well I have to say I really don't get this movie. It seemed to have all the spender and glory of a huge Hollywood blockbuster, but it completely lacked the soul of a Star Trek movie.

I'll give them credit for trying, it had all the action and adventure you could wish for, but to me it just seemed to be missing something, and I can't actually put my finger on what it was other than to say that they seemed to focus too much on making the movie big and they lost the subtleness of keeping it Star Trek... if that makes sense.
