What might light look like if one happened to be moving at the speed of light?

Infinite mass: how would we know it if it bit us?

The ever expanding universe may help in solving that one... as well as an ambulance.

Ever had an ambulance pass you, and the pitch of the siren drops when it passes? This is known as the doppler effect. As the ambulance approaches you, the soundwaves are are squashed closer together altering their pitch.

Light seems to go through a similar expansion despite being longitudal as opposed to latitudal (please swap these two if mistaken) In the universe, as solar systems are shooting away from us at a tremendous rate, the light appears to shift down the spectrum to redder colours. (known as red shift)

I don't know for certain but it's probably a safe guess to say that colours shift up towards the violet in reverse.

So presumably, travelling at the speed of light the following could happen:

Light directly in front of you would be compressed past X-Rays, through Gamma rays, through cosmic rays and out the otherside.

Light directly behind you would shift down through microwaves, and well past radiowaves.

In terms of visibility:

looking forward, your eyes would receive photons at a rate which would probably disintegrate them and everything attached to them. If you survived, you would probably see just an infinitely bright white flash.

Looking backwards, your eyes are travelling at the same rate as the photons, no new photons would enter your pupil. If photons are used and discarded, you would be able to see infinite blackness, if photons are indestructable, you would be able to see the last thing you saw right before you went to light speed. If you hit light speed 1m above earth, then no matter how far you went, it would still look like you were 1m above earth.

Looking to the sides, right in the middle of view would be where you are and what you would normally be able to see as if travelling very fast, everything in the middle would shift along the colour spectrum with very pretty but deadly effects.

This is my personal opinion, I understand I've stated some of it as fact, very little is actually proven.

Infinite mass... you wouldn't know it, unfortunately if you even got close enough to see it (or be bitten by it), your eyes would be ripped from their sockets and you would be sucked into and squashed into a space so tiny you'd discover why the SMART car was invented.

William, how do you know it would look normal? If we see red-shift with stars that are moving away from us, then how could it look normal if travelling at the speed of light?

Also if we're travelling at the same rate as the light particles showing what's happening behind us, then behind us would be stationary...

they say that the universe would be two dimensional transeverse to the vector of travel. photons comming from direction of travel would have infinitely high frequency and photons from the rear would have zero frequency: if possible of course. in lamen terms, you would see nothing, so you could not see where you are going even if it were physically possible to travel that fast.

Hi guys, I think we won't see anything.
I mean, at the speed of light, time stops. You will not have an infinate mass, because, something can only travel at the speed of light if it has no mass. Mass has to be accelerated...,. but light is acute. No acceleration.
If light has to be accelerated, it won't be light, because how can light not travel at the speed of light?
So, in sort..., if you would travel at the speed of light, you would lose all your mass, all your volume, and become a non-descriptive matter, similar to photons..., or perhaps a photon.
Time would have stopped and you would have become an acute traveler.
You would be everywhere at exactly the same time. You, as a photon, wouldn't be traveling through space and time anymore. You would be space and time! We can only talk about speed of light and distance and traveling forms because we are an observer. We see from a relative plce, unlike light itself. It is not an observer. It is all!

Kind regards
Silvain
